Members turdadactyl
So, I finally had some time yesterday to put a new snare on my newly acquired Yamaha Recording Custom 8x14" snare. (I actually got a whole mid-80's Recording Custom kit.) The sound is so huge. I've got it on the DW kit right now, so I'm sure it'll be in my next YouTube vid. As soon as I did a little test recording and played it back it was incredible. I could close my eyes and hear the snare from "Billie Jean." It's low, and totally understated. LOVE IT!!! Members polarnewfie
Sounds like a winner to me. I played one about 3 years ago, and I would have rented out the wife to pay for it. But he wasn't selling (or renting) so I use a Ludwig Supra now instead. I am green with envy.
Members Jarick
My old drum teacher had a set of 80's Yammies which miked up fantastic. Great drums.
Members turdadactyl
I have a set of garnet red 1985 Yamaha Stage Series that I bought new. (Oddly enough I bought them in 1989.) The Recording Custom is white, somewhere in the mid-to-late 80's. While the Stage Series sounds good, so far the Recording Custom is a beast. I haven't had enough time to really tune them up and record them yet though.
