Members Catinea
Hey all Alright. I've been playing it for 1.5 months and it's great! I love to learn and play drums! I'm looking to buy a good drum set. Well, for the test?? reason, I bought one cheap electric one and it really didn't work out. So I figured out that i'd buy a decent one. My budget is $1000. no more! i found interesting one, http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/msg/766338599.html I asked if I can buy $1000. (not sure yet..) this one looks good. I love red, and it seems like the cymbals are good. Shall I have it or not? --------------- Edit : Still waiting for the reply. If I can get it $1000, i'll stick with it, otherwise i'll search other one. i can't go over my budget --------------- Edit : No luck! Okay. i'll find something else...... Members turdadactyl
That's a really nice setup. Whether it's worth it for you to spend that kind of money right off the bat, I suppose is your prerogative. If you can get it for $1000 you'd be doing well. If you can't get that kit within your budget, I'd say get a less expensive kit, like a Pearl Export or a Yamaha Stage Custom, but make sure you get decent cymbals like Zildjian A, A Custom or Sabian. Members ResoHead
lucky. my first (and current) kit was $350 least it makes enough noise to annoy ppl...
Members SkiAz4Free
If you can get it for $1K, then JUMP on it. Those drums are discontinued, due to still unknown reasons, but the speculation is that they were better than originally designed, sold like hotcakes, and Gretsch took it in the sniffer due to a missed price-point. What this means is that they may someday be worth more than the original $700 pricetag. Add the cymbals & stands, and you've got a kit worth at least $1K, if not, more. They sound, look, and play fantastic! Except the snare, she blows chode. But that shouldn't stop you. I've had mine for two years now, and don't ever plan on getting rid of them. They are also a little less than "easy" to tune. This will help develope your ear and knack for tuning. Good luck!
Members RumStik
she blows chode. Hey, in some circles, that's value-added. But seriously, considering the cymbals included, $1,000 for that is one sweet deal.

Members cheeseadiddle
Hey, in some circles, that's value-added. That Darlene... she's a real honey! Unfortunately, she's an incredible fellater. What a waste.
Members Bitter Dawn
You're on the right track, look to buy used so you can get a steal! Maybe someone will correct me (or should?) but I think buying drums is like buying a car, you can get something just as good used and save cash because if you buy new you're paying more than you should. My budget was also $1000 and I ended up with a Tama Rockstar six piece, DW5000 pedals & hat stand, DW collector snare, and some nice Zildjian & Sabian cymbals - cymbals alone were worth $1k. Members cheeseadiddle
I'll bet that black paint is from a rattle can, too. No thanks.
Members Cross Eyed Mary
For that price i'd just strip it. Still better than anything else in that price range.
Members Jarick
Stick with anything from the big names and you won't go terribly wrong...especially mid-level used kits. Sounds like you're on the right track though. Nothing wrong with starting out on nice equipment, that's what I did as an adult with hockey
Members Rogers8pcs
I'd go and shop around at the local pawn shops you never know what you might find.

I see those kits for $300-400 regularly on CL here. And those don't have spray paint on them.
