Members Rory!
Hey people, so I'm pretty new to these forums, and im just as new to drumming, so if anyone out there wants to help me out with any of the stuff im asking about, well... you're pretty much my hero. I just started playing the drums a few months ago, and I absolutely love it. but with starting any instrument, there comes a lot of questions, and boy do i have questions. thats my kit right there. It's an old fibes kit, I'm guessing from the 70's. does anyone know if this is a good kit? Any info youd be willing to share with me? how about my cymbals? I basically play a lot of rock music and occasionally punk so is this the right kit for me? and does anyone know how much a kit like this/ the cymbals I have sell for? all this stuff was given to me. also, what should i do at this point to make myself a better drummer? does anyone have any tips, techniques, lessons online i shoud watch, anything that could help me out. how about equipment? if I play rock, what cymbals, sticks or new kit should i get? basically im just trying to get an idea of where to go from here. im new to drumming and i love it so i want to make myself as good as i can possibly be. anything anyone has that could help me out id love to hear it. thanks a lot. Members cheeseadiddle
You're supposed to put the little blue sticky things on your drums, not the case they come in. That's today's lesson.
Members dwdrummer732
http://pas.org/Resources/rudiments/rudiments.html there is nothing more important than these.
Members D Carroll
Hell of a nice kit man! Old fibes kits, and zildjian cymbals are in high demand, you could unload the whole thing in a few hours with minimal effort for $800. Rock the kit for a long time, keep the cymbals, they will be good as long as you don't break them. On the ride, you have a little black thing that the cymbal sits on, get them for all of the other cymbals. Lessons. You just got a free kit, now invest the money you would have spent on a kit on lessons.
Members Thomas G
Helluva nice kit, man! I've played on some old Fibes drums before and they were incredible. Awesome cymbals, too. If you take care of everything, you really could play on those drums for the rest of your life. For tips on how to make your kit sound a lot better, check out Bob Gatzen on youtube. he has some awesome advice. Also, what pedal are you using? Members D Carroll
Just worry about single bass right now. Do you have a drum key?
Members cearleywine
that's an amazing first kit, especially the cymbal quality. Learn how to properly hit cymbals so you can make them last. I suggest browsing a lot of youtube videos for beginning drummers.

Members D Carroll
Nothing wrong with that. Look at these videos for tuning: http://www.youtube.com/user/prodrumtips
Members Thomas G
Bob Gatzen is THE man! Seriously. Check him out on youtube. He can teach you a ridiculous amount of stuff on how to make your drums sound more amazing than they probably already do.

Members twosticks
I way agree with the others, get lessons, learn rudiments etc. Only thing I might say is that the small tom head looks like it's worn out with all the dimples and dents. a newer head might help with tuning and help make the drum sing! Members drumtechdad
Get lessons. No video or DVD can observe you play and make corrections. You will save all kinds of time.

Members boxofrocks
Thats a sweet kit man, top of the line cymbals too. Looks like you may need new heads on the toms, and I'd get rid of that muffle ring on the floor tom. Check out how to tune on Youtube, might invest in a drum dial, then go pick up Jojo Mayer secret weapon DVD, I just got it, and wow!
Members OptimusV6
Very nice cymbals, welcome! I purchased three DVDs when I started drumming.1. Tommy Igoe - Getting Started2. Tommy Igoe - Groove Essentials3. Jojo Majer - Secreat weapons for the modern drummer At least get the first two, they are really good and you can buy them both for 24.99 at musicians friends. I agree with 1000%. Videos and DVD are cool, but a teacher can not only show you the way, but make sure you're doing it right. This is especially important for a beginner because it's so important to get a good grip. It will do you no good to watch a DVD of JoJo Mayer or Lars Ulrich or whoever and try to do what they're doing, but doing it wrong because you don't know any better.
