Members sirskatealot066
acrolite is a less expensive option. i personally prefer older black beautys. the ones that cost more than my drumset. BUT when it comes to newer drums id pick the black beauty. sound is about the same as a supra (probably a bit better) and it looks nicer IMO
Members cheeseadiddle
I'd get this before I got a Ludwig Black Beauty. Cheaper too. World Max Black Hawg. Black nickel over brass, single flange hoops, clips and tube lugs.

Members D Carroll
Those hoops look like they'd eat straight through sticks. They will, but the sound is worth it.
Members marko46
That's a sweet snare. Played one at George's, but ended up buying the Witt instead. If you , (she) can afford it, jump on one IMO.
Members twosticks
As far as Ludwig, IMO I don't know much about the Black Beauties except that the best ones are the vintages ones. I used to have a Supraphonic (with my first set) and now have an Acrolite. To me, I would go for the Supra. Very nice snare with ten lugs for very fine tuning. It won't break the bank but is still a sweet snare. THe Acrolite is very nice choice as well. I also seem to like the 5x14" Can be tuned low or high. I would also add to go a big music store and play EVERYTHING! Don't be locked into just one maker! IS many makers of snares! Open up your choices. I recently got a chance to play a Yamaha Anton Fig snare that was Awesome to ME! also was a Pearl, a Sonor, and a Pacific that was totally cool sounding as well. Also remember that Heads, Snares, rims and throwoffs affect the sound on any snare. Can take an old Acrolite and refit it with better heads, snares (the actual wires) and tune it up right and have a powerhouse of a snare. It really depends on the snare sound you want to hear, the heads and tuning etc. All I'm saying is anyone can buy a Black beauty (even a vintage one) and have it still sound crappy or not fit the music. Try stuff out! is not a Lexus or Rolex, just because you buy the Name, doesn't mean it's the snare you want to hear. Hope this helps!!
Members manoeuver
Also consider the Pork Pie Big Black. It's what I was playing on those tracks I posted a week or so ago. it's very sweet. I picked it over my SS, Supra and my Yammy Copper.

Members cheeseadiddle
Those hoops look like they'd eat straight through sticks. They're flanged, not stick choppers. Look closely.
