Members boomboomdrums
cool video. Thanks. I think I liked the black suede ambassador on the 5 1/4 14 steel drum the best.

Members sirskatealot066
to me the best head for the pork pie was the vintage a and the best one for the tama was the black suede.

Members zildjian@consol
It really didn't do it for me at all ,you should have tested all the heads on the same snare drum at the same tension. Don't ya think?

Members cearleywine
sounds like your snares are choking your bottom heads a little, especially on the maple. I like the renaissance with 14x5.5 steel the best.
Members D Carroll
Renaissance on the steel was a winner for me. The maple drum sounded chocked, but, to each his own.
Members bbe
ive been having a hard time getting the maple to sound good as of late. it used to sound incredible, now i can barely get it to sound ok. any tips? its got fresh heads (reso and batter) as well as snares. Members Jarick
I preferred the steel snare to the maple on all three, and preferred the Renaissance over the other heads. With my 14x7, it sounds a lot like yours...very deep and dark. It ended up liking a two-ply head a lot more than single ply. I think with the single there was too much volume in the snare and it ended up with strange ring and overtones that couldn't be tuned out. The two ply head dampened enough that it sounded deeper with fewer overtones.

Members bbe
How many snare wires? 16. i use 12s on my steel snare and love them, but with the larger drum, i feel i need those extra 4 snares to maintain a decent snare sound.
