Audio Interface for Electronic Drums [Least latency?]

Hello,

I am building a new PC for my home studio.  I have a electronic drum kit and I need a good Auido Interface for it (Budget $500-$1000).  I currently use M-Audio Delta 44.  It works for me, but there is a slight latency, but it can annoy session drummers (who are used to practicing acoustic).    The least buffer I am able to go with Dellta 44 audio card is 512.   Anything less, and i can hear annoying pops and distorted noise.

What Audio Interface do you do you use for your Electronic Kit?  How low are you able to go when it comes to Buffer size?   Please share.   Hopefully this thread will help many.

Thank you.

FYI:  I prefer PCI based.  I am not sure whether USB is a good idea for Audio Interface.   I have USB 3.0, but I dont think there are any USB 3.0 Audio Interface out there yet.

M-Audio did make some great PCI Audio Interfaces back in the Day.  They haven't really come up with anything newer and faster.  My Delta 44 works great for keyboards and VSTs.    I love the break out box as well.

There is a probably a few mili-seconds lag when you play electronic drums with the Delta 44.  The human brain can easily compensate for this lag, but it can feel a bit weird at first.  i will be working with a session drummer very soon, and I hope he can get used to it as well.    If not, I will probably have to settle for RME, Lynx or MOTU based Audio Interface.  You can go as low as 64 sample buffer size with those cards.  I would be curious to see how those compare as well, but it's anything but cheap...oh well...

THanks.
