Members staticsound
Not really a singing question, but say there are two females of equal attractiveness. One has a really soft "pleasant" speaking voice, the other speaks with a bit of vocal fry. I am automatically attracted more to the one with the fry in her voice...I just came to this realization the other night after a gig. Anybody else?...or am I just a weirdo? Moderators davie Posted January 11, 2012 Moderators Share Posted January 11, 2012 lol. interesting observation I'm guessing the vocal fry gives the impression of a "bad girl". You know.. bad girl = sexy But in my own opinion, when people in general talk in vocal fry constantly I get annoyed. A pet peeve of mine I guess? Who was the one that posted the article about more and more women nowadays using vocal fry in speech? Was it Duke?
Members chamcham
I think you're talking about a recent article about Britney Spears popularizing the term "vocal fry". Now many girls want to do it.
Members staticsound
Nah, I'm not talking about intentional like this Britney thing. I'm talking natural...my speaking voice naturally has some fry to it. I don't try to do it, that's just how it comes out. I think you may be right Davie, bad=sexy, lol.I think Duke did post something like this awhile back, now that I think about it. Where the hell is he anyway...he get perma-banned? Members grace_slick
I think it's got something to do with a partial "bad girl" vibe and also the fact young girls (like little girls, kids, etc) never use vocal fry (as far as I know). It's only something that tends to happen when they get older, teenage years and upwards. So it's a more "grown up" way of speaking (maybe) and a non goody-two-shoes type of girl. Women who speak in higher tones (where it's harder to get vocal fry happening in the voice) seem sweeter and nicer. Women who speak in low tones seem more sophisticated and sexual sometimes, and speaking lower down lets more fry come in. I am blabbing out of my ass right now though. lol

Members Masklin
I read some article once about american women and how they had a habit of frying almost every word. I didn't like the sound much. If fry is your fetish, well. That's cool.

Members CountRobula
If my voice gets hoarse from over singing or straining, I lose my natural low speaking voice and sound fryish.. Other than that little quirk of mine, I don't hear it much in other people in general. Weird.
Members staticsound
This cracked me up...I only watched the first 40sec but this is what I'm talking about...but without the "valley girl" accent [video=youtube;UsE5mysfZsY]
Moderators davie Posted January 12, 2012 Moderators Share Posted January 12, 2012 nice video. lol I was listening to some other videos as well. I think it usually happens when they speak low and quiet. And agreed, sooo annoying!
Members grace_slick
Heh, that vid's funny. SO true. It'd be even better if it had a talking ass there instead though.
Members Mr. Manicotti
I never heard of it until this thread -- just watched the video. Hearing that late night in a club is one thing, but can you imagine how it'd sound the next morning with a hangover?
Members Jrogers3350
hmmm... a vocal fry ass bbq?¿? very interesting and confusing at the same time lol.... this is definitely interesting since i've never really paid that much attention but now after seeing the video and thinking about it its definitely true, i can pick out different girls i know that either do that or don't... I definitely would have to be one of the ones that doesn't like it all that much now that i'm aware of it... what sucks is now i'm going to be keying in on it everywhere I go and its going to annoy the {censored} out of me... o well...
