Members EvilSoup
It really helps with getting even pressure while singing. Since vowels and consonants constantly disrupt airflow, doing lip rolls while singing the lyrics helps you deal with the changing airflow. If you have problems with the larynx raising, then try it with a low larynx as well.
Members Jersey Jack
Interesting, but I'm having a hard time imagining how one can do lip rolls and sing lyrics at the same time. I suppose you could inflect the underlying hum slightly to approximate the words, but what comes out doesn't much sound like lyrics.

Members jvardon
How is it possible? The act of a lip roll keeps your lips flapping together and your mouth more or less in a closed position. Are you sure you're doing lip rolls?

Members ido1957
My warm ups CD include humming with lip rolls - no words though. A sample mp3 would be cool...
Members e021708
OK. Here is how to do this. You only do the lip rolls as a fill after singing one of the lines in a verse for example. This works best for blues songs with a call and response feel. After singing a phrase normally, try to simulate a lip roll with pitches similar to a good blues guitar riff... Do this only in private, of course.

"Singing lyrics while doing lip rolls." That's how you stated it at the outset. Anyway, I do mix it up because it helps me keep the sound forward. You are just doing it to practice even pressure. Sing a line like that and then sing it normal. I'm not asking you to actually sing like that in front of people.
