Members EmeeBee1982
Tis a true statement.. What sorts of juices/waters do you use to lubricate? I have been doing the lukewarm tea with honey for a while, and it works wonders.. But lately I've been drinking a jamba juice before hand and it seems to be making my chords more flexible.. I have tried researching using fruit juices but to no avail.. Advice?

Members ThisIsExile
I tend to just drink water.Keeps my throat lubricated and lets me do my thing. However, against what most people would say, when I do "gurgle" goregrind type vocals I drink milk and/or eat cheese. But that type of vocal is very non-strenuous and the dairy just adds a kinda "gross" texture to it. Members nomadh
Have either of you seen "the zen of screaming" Its how to do hard rock without damage. Check it out
Members ThisIsExile
Re: Zen of Screaming: I pretty much learned to do it on my own. My throat only ever starts to hurt when I have been doing growls all band practice and I start to strain. I know to just stop at that point. Advice? i don't think you should have to lube everytime you scream. if you need to that means your headed for serious trouble whether you do lubricate with tea everytime you scream or not. BTW my vocal coach told me to look up the zen of screaming and i haven't. any links where i can find this?

Members ThisIsExile
What kinda stuff is Zen Of Screaming supposed to teach you? Because most of the bands listed are pretty mainstream and non-brutal. Including Lamb Of God.

Members wikwox
A recent bout of Nodes has cured me of screaming. The real surprise is that it took 30 plus years to get here. No more James Brown I'm afraid.

Members EmeeBee1982
if anyone knows how to scream like ex-chiodos frontman craig owens PLEASE tell! It takes a lot of vocal warm-ups, not screaming warm ups. Obviously both are always recommended but for Craig Owen's scream you have to define your range to get the highs and lows he can manage without making it so extreme. He is very talented, I wish I could completely master it but I'm still just skimming along. I try to stick to my own thing but find other influences beneficial. Private message me if you need more info The Zen of Screaming is dope. It definitely is a good training book to help shape up and just {censored}ing practice this {censored}. Correctly.. As for the lubrication, the second you let your chords dry out and continue screaming you'll find yourself ripping and tearing at them and that is no bueno. In the long run with limit what you are able to do. Lubrication makes them flexible, flexbility is key when screaming. I was just seeing what other people are using, its scary to think if your not making that a dialy practice.
Members EmeeBee1982
What warm up exercises or songs do you screamers recommend? Practice conventional singing warm-up exercises before a performance; the same fundamental exercises that you would do before choir practice. Find a singing warm-up routine, like singing the vowels--Eh, Ee, Ah, Oh, Oo--over a 5-note scale. Learn to create scratchy sounds from the nasal region in the back, above your throat, not low in your throat. Use these two points of reference. Remember to keep your scratchy sounds coming from higher up (the nasal region) so you don't damage your voice. If you're doing it wrong, it will hurt like hell. Use your diaphragm correctly! Don't hold the air in your chest! You should breath in and fill your stomach, not your chest.
