  1. I've parted ways with many I should have kept...  My Fly, my Carvin DC127T, my Jackson Dinky Reverse Pro..  I even regret my old white Epiphone Flying V back in the early 90s...  But none of them compare to the regret and ache I felt after I let my beloved Charvel 375 go back in 1995..  A buddy wanted a guitar for his kid to learn on, and I had just bought a Jackson Dinky, so I wasn't really paying much attention to my Charvel.  I sold it to him and regretted it pretty much instantly.  I looked for one like it for years, but the ones I found were either beat up, or they had maple necks, or they weren't the right color.  Then 2005 rolls around and I got a guitar for Christmas.  Need some straplocks.  So I stopped into a local mom and pop shop that I used to drive by every single day..  Got my straplocks and as I'm walking out I spot a Charvel/Jackson headstock on their used wall.  It was silhouetted in the window, so I couldn't see what it was..  I walked over and there was a Charvel 375 that looked a lot like my old one.  I pick it, start playing it and I notice a little detail on the end of the fretboard...  I flip it over to check the serial number..  This was my old guitar, I think...  I take it to the counter and ask if there is a case with it.  Dude goes in the back and brings out the old chainsaw case,  complete with the hole I knocked in it when I was installing a Dimarzio Tone Zone back  in 1992.  It was indeed my baby.. I bought it ASAP, brought it home and it lives on my wall again.

  2. JJ is just about crazy enough to help run this place. He has my support.

That is not, however, a reflection of Fretsy. Frets does a fine job around here, and is called friend by many. However, one man cannot hold back the tidal wave of stupidity. If help is needed, there are worse ideas than giving JJ a key to the asylum.

Unfortunately, I feel that I have to retract my previous post supporting JJ.. In recent days, I feel that JJ has betrayed the values for which I believed he stood. I cannot support this man and I feel that any office he holds will soon be rampant with corruption, beer cans and a sweaty smell.

  4. I just come here to look at guitar pr0n and argue with dumbasses.. This could be a knitting forum for all I care. Well, cept knitting pr0n is probably pretty boring. But I bet the old ladies on there would really put a good argument if you got em riled up.

  5. I'll just tackle the top ten...

    1. Jimi Hendrix (From a creative perspective, I won't argue this. Technically though, no, not even close..)

    2. Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band (Not top ten material)

    3. B.B. King (King of the Blues, absolutely, but his guitar skill doesn't warrant the top ten.)

4 Eric Clapton (Similar to B.B., but with better guitar skills.. 4 is about right.)

5 Robert Johnson (Great music, but not top ten guitar skill. Creativity off the charts though, cuz before RJ, guitars just didn't do that.)

6 Chuck Berry (For his era, easily top ten. But not today.)

7 Stevie Ray Vaughan (7 is too low...)

    8. Ry Cooder (about right)

    9. Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin (Way too low..)

10 Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones (Probably the most over-rated player I've ever heard.)

And now, a few "WTF?" moments...

    14 Jeff Beck

18 John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers

    39 Brian May of Queen

    70 Eddie Van Halen

82 David Gilmour of Pink Floyd

    85 Randy Rhoads

86 Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath

    96 Angus Young of AC/DC

    97 Robert Randolph

Obviously, this RS list was compiled by retards... But then, isn't it always?

  6. Sonically, yes but I hear it's a different feel (I've never played a scalloped neck before). I too have huge frets on my Warmoth neck and I love it.

I've owned scalloped boards and I've owned super jumbo frets before, and there is a difference. Scallops are a lot of fun. Give it a shot, and I bet you'll do just fine. Just don't throw a Dremel at it, or else this could happen:

(I can't see Photobucket here at work, so I'm posting from a quote of the photo I want to show you.. It should be a really fubarr'd scallop job..)

  7. A few sizes of wooden dowels, a few different grits of sandpaper and a wood rasp. All that plus a little elbow grease is all you need to make it happen. Plus a little self control to keep you from digging all the way through the fretboard. I did my first one nearly 20 years ago and it turned out very nicely.

  8. Personally, I'm indifferent about EVH.. I know he exists, but I don't really care. I know he changed the face of electric guitar, and I respect that, but I don't really care for his body of work. I don't dislike it, I'm just not much of a fan. To me, when a VH song comes on the radio, I'm like "Oh yeah, I remember this song from when I was a kid..." but that's about it. I'm not like all "OMG, it's EVH! Turn that up!" So I don't love him and I don't hate him. I simply acknowledge that he exists and move on with my life.
