Am 34 years old and have played guitar since I was 13-14 (8th grade), or about late 1992. Played Oud since 2001. Early on (before I properly learned to play...) I was primarily influenced by BB King, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, early Van Halen, and SRV (from watching the videos to Angel of Harlem and Crossfire as a 4th or 5th grader, I learned to do wide vibrato before I ever knew how to play!); by 8th grade (when I first properly learned to play...) and throughout high school, I was heavily influenced STILL EVEN MORE by Jimi, as well as by Slayer, Iron Maiden, Zakk Wylde, Pantera, Jeff Martin (Tea Party...a Canadian band), Randy Rhodes, and then Fear Factory, Morbid Angel (hey, Trey Azogthoth can wail...), and ESPECIALLY Tommy Victor of Prong and Geordie Walker of Killing Joke. Recently I've been into Matt Bellamy's playing as well.
Also love world music, & I mean LEGIT foreign, unfamiliar stuff that creeps my friends out lol, not new agey crap Sting produced. LOVE old Turkish Mehter (military music from the old Ottoman Empire), love Oud Sarod players like Usted Ali Akbar Khan, and Qawali singers like the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
I've dabbled with keyboards, and mostly to learn my favorite scores and soundtracks, a genre of which I'm a huge fan. Eric Serra and Basil Paledouris especially.
