It's nothing fancy. The mic is an Apex 460 tube-condenser microphone. I run it through my Yamaha PSR-3000 keyboard as a pre amp, and I record using Reaper and an Maudio Delta 66 interface. All I do to the horn is add reverb. The keyboard has an on board compressor which is usually on, too. I know the keyboard isn't the best for a pre amp, but the mic is always hooked up to it as I use it for practicing and recording vocals, too.I'm just too lazy to unhook it and run it through my mixer.
Those Apex 460s are GREAT mics! I have an Avantone CV-12, which is essentially the same mic with fancier shell.

Despite my best intentions' date=' I ended up sounding a bit like "JBMashup". [img']http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/core/images/smilies/smiley-angry002.gif[/img]
I was shootin' for spank, but I ended up with wank.
What's your mic and signal chain, if you don't mind me asking?

Man... your tenor tone just KILLS me!!!! Here it and your note choice and phrasing make me think of Mr. Magic - era Grover. Another stellar take, this one might be my favorite!!!!
-
Yeah, I think you definitely showed that Tele who's boss!! Killer!!!!! Shades of Eddie Hazel...
-
Nice! And that B3 tone...
-
Yeah! An arrangement!!!!
I thought it got a hair cluttered at times, but the playing is KILLER!!!!
Funny how we both went whole-tone at about the same part through the backing
-
This time we get to jam with Herbie Hancock's Headhunters!!!! On their tune "Spank-A-Lee". Tune is in D, going to G on the change (happens twice in the backing)
Have fun!

The word that comes immediately to mind is.... groovy!! Especially the 1st chorus on the Hammond! Then it gets kinda bombastic (in a great way!) with the piano!
One of my favorite takes I''ve heard from you! Nice!
I'm about to do my "modal madness" piano take,

Alley oop!
Nice, as always!!! Really dig your tenor tone, its very early Wayne. Really works over this track since its kinda got a "Footprints" vibe already

Here's a bit of light reading for a Friday night.
Beautiful!!! LOVE the Wes opening!!! Tele neck pickup?
-
Here's my take, once straight through... changed up my tone: still my strat, but instead of my custom 15/7w head I'm plugged straight into a THD Univalve, opened up all the way...

Is there anything funnier than a bad guitarist playing on a guitar without fretboard markers in a key he almost never plays in? I say' date=' 'no'-as proof I offer this: http://www.soundclick.com/util/downl...fm?ID=13252872
But it was such a fun track I had to have a go-thanks, Anton!
Bad? Not at all! maybe uncertain sounding at a few points, but getting there nicely in others!

Here's a new one for y'all! This one's really really simple - minor blues in F. That's it

Lolz, thanks man!
My band does this song as an encore a lot so I know the ascending lick pretty well. Although I never did bother to figure out the dimished-y lick after that. I usually just turn my volume down and move my fingers while whistling inconspicuously. I think the closest I've gotten it was on that take.
I figured you'd played through this tune a time or two
I have also, but not in a looooong time.
And my approach to that diminished lick is "it ends on a natural VI"
-
Hehe, and almost to the minute that I got my chops up to "shred" level, everyone started listening to stupid Kurt Cobain! :mad2:
Anyway, here's mine. First take, but I did a a do-over on the keyboard solo part. The first one wasn't pretty!
All I can say is YES!!!!! That's some of the best playing I've heard from you all around!!! Just KILLER.
And you got the after-solo part right, starting from the ascending licks... ya b@stard! I just winged, haha
The 6/8 part is just freakin' INSANE.
-
Mwahaha!! Join the dark side!!
I used to enjoy embarrassing "shredder" guitarists in the 80s... but of course back then my technique was fresh off 9 years of intensive study... and now, not so much
-
Ha! That brought a huge smile to my face. Love how that first solo gets going after you lay into the wang wheel! Great outside stuff at 1:17!! And where the keyboard solo goes to the end was over-the-top wanky awesomeness!!!

With Halloween nearly upon us, what backing track could be more appropriate than Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein"?!?!?
Without further ado...
Frankenstein backing: https://app.box.com/s/4df4fuvrno6s3e2qo11nujabd76lxgkq
And here's my take.... I completely winged it, having the song burned into my brain since an early age, but I did have to punch in once half-way through, having completely botched a landing

Lol, mostly clams, particularly the one at 0:42. (I assume you mean bvi's)
Yeah I did
-
And here's my little groove. This is definitely in my favorite three or four backing tracks ever. So channeling Johhny Guitar Watson!
...oh, and you owe me a game of chess now, Anton.
Nice! A few too many bvii's for my ears though

I never quite figured out exactly what chords I should be playing on the walk-down section I finally settled on Eb Dm7 Cm7 F
Interesting. The walk-down is Fm7 - G - Gb - Fmaj. And the main groove is Fm7.
-
I'm supposed to be working on something else tonight but...
Nice! Very Albert King in the beginning
Is the guitar slightly out of tune?
-
Piano version
In the organ version I didn't acknowledge the major-ness of the B section, playing only notes in the Em blues scale pretty much the whole song.
On the piano version I acknowledge the major-ness of the B section and in fact play chords thru it E -F#m A-E.
Its like your left hand is saying to me "Please, Anton... PLEASE stay in key, quit wandering off!!!"
LOVE what you did with the B section!

Here's a little bonus jam... dedicated to the late, great Johnny "Guitar" Watson. This is a classic tune of his called "Ain't That A B****", and its a BLAST to jam over! F... for make it FUNKY!!!

And in honor of Johnny having been equally adept at guitar and keys, I did a "split" B3/Guitar take:
