  1. Hehehe. Hope you like it! Yes, I hope nothing goes wrong! And of course, a big thanks for all of you for your help, especially skatalite and Florida_Gator! I'll definitely be hanging around these forums more often and hopefully be able to share my experiences with my new MD80.
  2. Okay, I ordered the Alvarez MD80 and I hope it arrives soon. It was so tempting to add the MD60 to the cart as well...
  3. I meant my strumming hand, but it's not a big deal. The Yamaha LS6 is way over my price range, so that is not an option. Is the sound of the FS720S really that inferior to the FG730S?
  4. Thanks for the information. I play with both a pick and finger style, so which guitar offers the most clearance for the fingers? I don't need a guitar with booming bass either, just clarity and brightness (but not too much of course). Do you think the FS720S can offer this? Also, does anyone knows if a standard dreadnought case will fit the FS720S?
  5. Oh jeez. I've been mistyping it the whole time and didn't even realize it. I meant to type FS720S. Do you have any experience with them?
  6. Yeah. I'm still debating between the Yamaha FG720S and FG730S and Alvarez M60 and M60. :poke: The Alvarezs' prices are definitely a steal, but the wait is difficult. I prefer the shape/size of the FG720S over the 3 other guitars. However, its build is slightly inferior to the other 3. It's such a difficult decision. As for the case for the Yamaha FG720S, because of its shape, do you think it will fit into standard dreadnought hard case comfortably without moving around too much? An example: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Musicians-Gear-Deluxe-Dreadnought-Case?sku=540945
  7. I ordered it last Friday. Were they backordered last Friday?
  8. Great comparison, skatalite. When did you order your MD80 to be getting it today?
  9. I'm interested in the Yamaha FG720S and FG730S as well. I understand they're bodies are laminate, but how do they hold up against each other and against the Alvarez MD60 and MD80?
  10. He said they were supposed to have received them Sunday (08/09/09). Yeah, I heard the same. The MD60's were suppose to come even earlier I believe. Supposedly 112 MD60's are coming in and 14 MD80's. That ratio is so disproportionate. Does anyone have experience with the Yamaha FG730S? Are the back/sides laminate or what?
  11. When I talked to the sales rep just a minute ago, I also pre-ordered an MD60 and he said mine was the 10th backorder. He checked to make sure that they would be getting enough and he said that they will be receiving "plenty enough." I'd go for it. EDIT: Actually, I already went for it. Did you ask the rep when the guitars will be coming in?
  12. Does anyone know about how many guitars will be coming in to AMS? One rep said the MD60 and MD80 won't be in for another 2-4 weeks.
  13. $730 for the MD660. I see why the MD60 for $300 is such a steal.
  14. Yeah, being discontinued. Just new models coming in. And pretty much, the top woods are the only difference. Cedar is more warm, mellow, but well-balanced. Engelmann Spruce is a bit brighter, but once the wood is broken in, it becomes warmer. Both sound great when played softly, though I think Engelmann has the tendency to be louder. I think AMS has the guitars for pre-order, and from what another forumite said earlier, an AMS rep told them they should be there any minute. Both the MD60 and MD80 are coming in shortly? I wonder how many people already pre-ordered and my chances of getting one. I don't think my chances are very good now as many people probably already pre-ordered. What are the MD60 and MD80 being replaced with?
  15. IF, and IF, you can get in on the Alvarez deal, do it. The yammies are nice, but not in the same league as the all solid wood Alvarez's. IOW, you're buying into a much higer price point or league of git. Good luck. Yeah, for that price, it's a great deal. However, they are still out of stock. I don't know why, are they being discontinued? Also, is the only difference between the MD60 and M80 the cedar top vs spruce top, respectively? What's the difference in terms of tone, resonance, etc between the two?
  16. Wow, there has been so many recommendations for the Alvarez MD60 and MD80. I never had any experience with American Musical, are they reliable? Also, I can get about 15% off my purchase from MF, so I'm really trying to select a guitar from them. They just added a bunch of new Alvarez's: RF010 RD010 RD110 RD2104VP RD210 RD410 Unfortunately, no MD60 or MD80. There is still a large selection of Yamaha's. I've been most interested in either the FG720S or FG730S. However, I do prefer the body of the FG720S over the FG730S, but have heard that the tone does resonate better in the 730S due to its rosewood back/side vs Nato in the 720S.
  17. Does anyone know the difference between the Yamaha FG720S and FG730S and whether or not the $20 price difference is justified?
  18. Stackabones - I saw your post on the Yamaha FS720S. How is it treating you so far? It looks beautiful and the body is "jumbo" (not the standard dreadnought), isn't it? I forgot to add that I do prefer a smaller and rounder body compared to the standard dreadnought as you guys might have been able to tell by my selections.
  19. Yes, I have seen many members pursuing the Alvarez MD60 and MD80. I couldn't find them on the MF website, but will look into them. Electronics are definitely not a big deal to me. I'm looking for a solid guitar, of course all wood preferable. However, most are out of my price range except for those Alvarez's. I can understand why they're out of stock, but why the sudden price drop?
  20. Hi everyone. I'm planning on purchasing a new acoustic or acoustic/electric soon. My budget is $350 with my most expensive choice being the Seagull Entourage Mini Jumbo. I had a few guitars in mind, ranging from various manufacturers. However, I am open to any suggestions and would like to know your opinions on what guitars are good. I prefer to purchase online from places like Musician's Friend as I have good experience with them and don't have to pay tax! I also have access to stores like Guitar Center and Sam Ash. The guitars listed below are ones I found from Musician's Friend as are the prices. (1) Alvarez RD8 - $250-270 (2) Seagull Entourage Mini Jumbo - $350 (3) Takamine - GS430S G NEX - $300 (4) Yamaha FS720S - $280 These are all regular acoustics (no electronics). I have seen many other guitars listed in my price range, so feel free to add or recommend guitars! Thanks for your help.
