The only person worse then Slick for that is George Lynch. I liked Earl Slick in the Stray Cats, like I said. Mainly, I'll remember him as the only person I ever saw put a Floyd Rose on a Danelectro.

Dimebag, Slash, and to a certain degree Dweezil also litter many pages from the late 80's to the mid 2000's endorsing every product ever through the door at NAMM.

Next, you have to choose an
    old-fashioned
ladies name. It can't be anything that a 24 year old would name is newborn baby daughter in the year 2010. Don't call your guitar "Kylie" or "MacKenzie" or "Schuyler" or "Caitlin".

My wife, born in 1979, is "Kylie", so I guess that is out.

Spindle sander, or chuck an abrasive spindle into a drill press, or be careful as **** with a Dremel sanding wheel, then finish by hand. Not exactly a mystical process. You're shaping channels into a flat surface.

You could use rasps/files and finish with sandpaper, if you wanted. It all boils down to how patient you are and/or how confident you are with high speed tools that cut fast, but bear in mind something like a Dremel cuts many times faster than a human being can react so the object is to work SLOWLY as possible with it, removing material in passes, not big, deep 'cuts'.

Know that you're gutting the value of any neck you do it to, please for the love of god don't do it on something like a 1980's Charvel or the like...

    Thanks Gitter,

You know these guys on Ebay that offering to do this for $99 per neck must have this down to a 45-60 process..... (Roy at Smooth Grooves once told me he had designed his own tooling and could do a neck in 30 mins flat)

I'd like to get good enough to knock one of these down in a few hours vs. days.

No worries on trying this on the good stuff..... the el cheapo's is where I shall start

  4. I've had scalloped neck strats since the 90's...always had one or two...... usually either had a Malmsteen USA or two hanging around, or I would have Roy at Smooth Grooves do it...(retired now)

So I have a few inexpensive necks laying around....and I want to give scalloping a shot....but how?

I've watched a few Bieber clones on Youtube ruin a few necks...but anyone have a clue what tools are used to do it right? Dremmel? Sandpaper? Sledgehammer? I am literally clueless.

  5. Should have made the list:

    Brad Paisley

    Brent Mason

    David Grissom

    Johnny Hiland

    Redd Volkaert

    Steve Morse

    Dann Huff

    Arlen Roth

    Dean Parks

    Sonny Landreth

    Leo Kottke

    Michael Hedges

    Roy Clark

    Glenn Campbell

    John Jorgensen

    Will Wray

    Louie Sheldon

    Tommy Tedesco

WHile all these folks are amazingly talented.....I can see why they aren't on most lists......why? for influence........EVH alone has more influence in one of his signature trademarks: ie: locking trem, D tuna, two hand tapping brought to the masses, etc... then all of these players have combined.

  6. 85 Randy Rhoads

    96 Angus Young of AC/DC

People who are misplaced are in italics, people who shouldn't even be on it are in bold. People whom i've never heard of are underlined. People i have no opinion on are left blank.

Sorry to hike my leg in your lucky charms broomstick cowboy..... but Randy Rhoads and Angus Young both belong on anyone's top 100 list if influence is even a considered category. Those two alone have probably inspired 15% of the worlds guitar playing population.

  7. This is Rolling Stone Magazines Top 100 Guitarist list of all time (in their "professional" opinion) ......they say the list was based on creativity, style, and raw talent.

    As you look through this.....

What placements do you agree/disagree with?

Whose placement on the list is like a joke to you?

Who in your opinion shouldn't even be on the list?

Who isn't there that needs to be?

  8. I guess I am a freakin oddball here..... I thought old Metallica and later Metallica sucked ass..... Only could tolerate the Black Album & Load......but REALLY hate the 1st 3 albums .....yeah, yeah....I know that is sacrilegious to most....but I hated Kill em', Lightning, and Puppets..... BAD.

With Crue..... I like most of the hits and pretty much the whole Dr. Feelgood album.

So I am Motley Crue > Metallica

.....as far as Spoooooon mannnn...... that was the weakest song on Superunknown.... Black Days, Black Hole Sun and My wave off the same LP are all solid.

  9. Now I don't like paying e-Bay anymore than anyone else, but if you saw my listing through their service then I believe they are entitled to their cut.

Agree 100%. I get tons of emails on ebay where people are like "screw these no-good c**ksuckers, lets do a deal off ebay, so you don't have to pay fees."....... No thank you...... if ebay is what brought my item to have 37 watchers, and a nice bidding shoot out at the end.... I will gladly pay them their cut.

That's 100 times easier than dealing with Craigslist tossers that can't understand:

    1) Cash only doesn't mean that I am accepting weed as a form of payment.

    2) No, I am not picking you...(and your German Shepard) up....to come look, and a ride back if you buy....or if you don't..... and if you do....I'm not carrying the 5150 2x12 combo you just bought up 4 flights of stairs since you are on disability.

    3) Since used gear is sold under the tacit assumption of 'as is, no warranty,' no, I'm not going to sign a document *handwritten by you* swearing that the 15 year old DOD "Envelope Filter" you just bought from me for twenty bucks won't blow up, melt, or fall apart while you gig over the next 5 years.
