  1. honestly, it could just be time you need to readapt. i blew my hearing flying up to NYC with a head cold, literally made me dear except LF for a day and then only slowly came back. landing was the worst pain i have ever had in my ears. aynway, NEVER fly with a headcold. not that it applies to this particular situation.

sucks to have your hearing go when doing audio... like breaking your writing hand as some author.

  2. rhythm is easy to hear if its on or off. its called in teh pocket or not. pitch on the other hand, i come across others who can hear WAY better than i even as low as a semitone off... i just pass it as expression, but i have fixed a note here or there for the few who can hear it and cant live w/o it fixed.

i dont know what can "train" you for it however.... i usually go by my own personal judgement of if it sounds good or not.

  3. the biggest thing is a LOT of research finding components that not only work but work well as a system FOR a DAW.

i could just tell you what works best, but where is the fun in that?

  4. people are fed up with Apple's constant fiddling with OSX that affect backward compatibility and forces endless application upgrades. People are going PC..

that just borders on insanity!!! i cant believe people even think of sticking with apple after what they have been doing to their customers for the past 3 years.

if you are technologically stupid, use a mac... if you know how to use a computer and it doesnt frighten you, use a PC. they are far more robust, more customizable, more upgradable, more useful OS [anyone think the dock is a lame attempt by apple for windows taskbar?], better file management... and on and on.

  5. It does reduce the room, but to say it takes it completely out of the picture is a big presumptuous.

its does enough to be true to my comment. you said completely, i only said essentially. symantics i know, but it does kill the room more than a mic sitting back 3' [opposed to 1" off the cone]... and a lot of that nice tone is the amp lighting up the room its in.

  6. by close micing, you essentially take the room out the picture... stick your ear right up to teh grill and listen. put a mic back where the guitarist usually stands and there will be a major "bloom" difference. i like a combination of both, but it also depends on the sound you are going for.

also WHERE you put a mic up close, how its oriented on the grille, centers or tot he side, on axis or off axis. its also why ribbons [with a F8 pattern] are helpful because they do caputre the backside room of the amp.

sticking it up close is usually for isolation to OTHER sounds in the room.

  7. no you cant... people are going to do what they want. if they are going to be late, they are going to be late. you can charge from the booked time and not arrival time which is what i do for people so that kind of elimates any issue there notifying them before hand so they know and its not some suprise. still, blaming others for what you claim as a personal weakness? =LAME.

i would say his weakness is definately his arrogance and egotism. im sure he has many more, but those are two pretty big and important ones.

  8. you cant compare the two of them like that... its TWICE the size. you can see the tweeter peeking out over the top of the SE version on the one test.

ultimately these are two different products. the real traps version not being as elegant in size, but bigger area to dampen overall... it also is more visually consuming for the person singing into it whereas the SE might excel with being less obtrusive.

  9. that is a pretty interesting design as well. it seems we have a new trend here of product line. the real traps seems like a good deal at $249 because like someone said above you can use it on amps and such... more flexability i think.

they should call these things 'nanogobos'. im trademarking that. copyright 2007.

aside from the obvious vocal use, i can definately see creative use of all the products like this that i have seen. im not sure about the price of them for said creativity...

  10. thanks, i saved that list to see what i havent done to XP yet. that was nice and long.

i dont know if it actaully does much however [aside from that SUN {censored}... hate that crap, although i have had to put it on my machien for something else,i tried to avoid JAVA... but MS gave up in its vJava] and yeah, QT stinks! but things like altiverb want it, and i need it for other video applications as well so im stuck having to have that on my machine as well.

but right now, im running a full multimedia workstation and its pretty rock solid and i dont see performace hits when doing audio since i havle only done a few tweaks on this machine and didnt totally optimize XPpro on it. i think my favorite tweak is the start delay, love the fast subwindows.... so i go for speed on the OS working, but im guilty of cleartype... just like to look at it over w/o it.

i have been pretty amazed by this machine so far, and its only a 2.4 c2d. just bought a WD 500GB HD today for $149 and loaded all my samples onto it.

i see greater results in optimizing your PC for recording, more than optimizing XP.
