    By HC News |

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Redwood City, California April 9, 2014 - U&I Software releases version 5.4 of Eric Wenger's Xx algorithmic composition software for Mac OS.

    XX 5.4
Xx is a powerful, easy-to-use algorithmic composition tool for Mac OS X from Eric Wenger, creator of Bryce 3D, MetaSynth, ArtMatic, ArtMatic Voyager and more. It can be used as a self-contained music creation environment or as a companion to MetaSynth or any MIDI-capable sequencer/digital audio workstation. It is aimed at both novice and advanced music makers and provides MIDI-to-MetaSynth translation.

Version 5.4 adds compatibility with OS X Mavericks as well as numerous bug fixes.

    REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X.5 or later. Version 5.4 requires an Intel processor. Version 5.31 is still available for PowerPC users.

    WHAT IS IT?
Xx 5 is an algorithmic music tool that can generate variations and multi-track elaborations of existing musical material, and it can also generate new single or multi-track compositions from scratch that you can further develop and edit. Its AI-based analysis algorithms take into account the key/scale/mode and note density of any existing tracks. It provides numerous tools that can generate complex variations and musical structures from simple melodies or musical fragments.

Xx contains MetaSynth's powerful synthesis engine which provides a wide-range of synthesis options without requiring additional MIDI hardware or Audio Unit synths. It can also make use of AU and MIDI synthesizers.

Use it to create new compositions or to further develop compositions begun in a different application. Compositions can be rendered to disk as high-fidelity audio files or exported as tracks to MetaSynth or any MIDI-capable sequencer (via MIDI files) for further development.

    KEY POINTS
    * AI algorithms for composition - Xx is a powerful compositional tool. The analysis algorithms use generative artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to help you enhance your composition. Xx can generate complex variations of your themes and propose harmonizations and thematic development that you can fine-tune. Use it for quickly building complex polyphonic arrangements from simple source themes. Xx acts as your collaborator. Engage in a composer/computer dialog that enables you to create music in just a few minutes or take your compositions into new areas.

    * MetaSynth companion - Xx can use and create MetaSynth instruments. It can export compositions and phrases to MetaSynth for further tweaking. MetaSynth instrument parameters can be controlled by MIDI-controllers which provides new capabilities to already outstanding instruments. It is the perfect MetaSynth companion for musicians more comfortable playing notes than painting them.

    * Advanced graphic visualization - Xx is very useful for the polyphonic visualization of musical structure. All tracks appear in a single window, visually revealing the harmonic relationships in your composition. Xx uses familiar piano roll notation with color-coding that provides a straightforward representation of track polyphony.

    * A simple user interface - Xx has a simple, intuitive, uncluttered interface; from a single window, you have access to all the tools and functions needed to create your composition. Xx is easy to learn and use. It can easily import and export MIDI files from other MIDI-based programs.
