Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted June 18, 2009 Moderators Share Posted June 18, 2009 Huh. I figured the "piezo-" prefix must have been the name of some scientist who discovered the phenomenon or something, but it turns out it comes from the Greek word, "piezein", which means "to press tight."I've now looked at several sites, and it's definitely:"pie" as in "apple pie"followed by"zo" as in Alonzo Morning's nickname.piezo.Nit-pickers will insist that you need to pronounce the dipthong as two distinct vowel sounds ("pah - ee"), but if you don't do so for the word "pie", you probably shouldn't be expected to for the word "piezo." It just comes down to regional dialects. Golias nails it
