Members prolog
What is the difference? I see single-coil pickups labelled both P90 and soapbar, and similar in appearance. Is it just that the former is a Gibson trademark, and the latter a generic term, or are there functional differences, also?
Members Guitar Heel
Same thing! Some P-90's are of the of "dog ear" variety (screws on the sides), while others are soapbar (screws in the middle).
Members flummox
They're the same thing. The creme colored ones look sort of like bars of soap, hence the nickname.
Members prolog
Great, thanks. This is what confused me - my Yamaha semi-hollow has a trio of "Yamaha soapbar pickups" according to their website, and I see the term "P90" used in most other places, with some exceptions (Fender, etc). Oh well!
