Members EADGBE
I'd go with Fender vintage alnico 5 magnet types. DiMarzio and Duncan make some good ones.

Members jake1211
I guess he means spaced out guitar sounds. I prefer humbuckers for that sorta stuff

Members cross.bones
Lace? My friend does a similar thing and put Lace Reds in his mustang and it sounded Chimey!
Members aliensporebomb
My Ionosphere Casting Shadows link below should give you some ideas. Most of what you're hearing is low output passive humbuckers. I use single coils for clarity in that type of music.
Members Dynasty4me
It depends on more than just the pick-ups. If you have a dark amp, the wood of the guitar can take away some of the chimey-ness that you are looking for. I've heard some very good sounds out of LP's, ES-335's, and PRS. Members aliensporebomb
Yep. And higher output pickups might not serve you well with this, the tonal contour tends to go darker then. So low-mediums will do. One possibility might be Bartolinis. They're active but have a piano-like clean tone.
Members Karma1
I do ambient guitar and usually use a Strat with Lace Sensors: silver/neck, gold/middle, blue/bridge. The guitar also has a built-in Roland synth pickup. I'm very happy with the Lace Sensors - great tone and totally quiet. I had a red in the bridge for a while but found it too harsh and edgy for my taste, but a lot of people seem to like them.
Members johanneswiberg
Check http://www.seymourduncan.com out. Anything "vintage" (often 6-8k resistance) oughta work, and you can find recorded examples on the site to listen and compare. Not too pricey either.
