Members tiltsta Posted October 24, 2009 Members Share Posted October 24, 2009 It is (or can be) tuned an octave lower than a normal guitar, but the strings are tuned to the same notes as on a guitar...just lower...so all the licks and chords you know are in the same place. Some say the short scale kind of makes it feel in between a bass and a guitar, but to me they always felt more like a bass than a guitar. I've only played the re-issue model, not the original version from the 60's. My biggest complaint was the long scale (for a guitarist's feel, short for a bass player), and incredibly narrow string spacing. It was really hard to play and just felt awkward for my hands. Posted October 24, 2009 Members Share Posted October 24, 2009 its a 6 string, short scale bass. they're great in theory, but i'm not so thrilled with them in practice. i'd rather have a baritone guitar, and then a 4 string bass.
