Members unit11
I recently converted a guitar I own to fretless for no readily explainable reason other than the guitar wouldn't sell and I the conversion is a fairly easy and painless process. With that, I swapped the roundwound strings for some flatwounds so that the rosewood fretboard wouldn't get destroyed quite as quickly. Just the other day I was sitting down and listening to some Derek Trucks and it made me think of playing slide, but only this guitar was nearby... so I just slipped on a slide and went to town. There is no string noise! At all! It is amazingly excellent! I'm very tempted to convert my regular git to flatwounds now (but keeping the frets!) just for the smoothness of sound. The only catch is the higher tension that flatwounds produce - I have to keep my fretless tuned a whole step down or the bridge (a floyd rose trem) will lift up too much. Still, it sounds quite excellent!
Members A_Gitarman
I have flatwounds on my lap steel... it! Why don't you put an extra spring on your Floyd so you can tune it to pitch?

You know, I didn't even think of that for some reason. I feel more than a little sheepish now! Think I'm going to go do that today...
