It is about inductance, capacitance and resulting resonant peaks also. The old YJM and HS3 dimarzio have a DC of like, 19k or something, but a millivolt rating of about 90. The next highest mV rating for non hum cancelling pickups Dimarzio makes is about 125mV, and those are supposed to be 60s sounding coils. Similarly, I have a Lace Transensor (as used by Shawn Lane,) and it has a DC of about 3k, yet it's inductance is about 10 henries and the resonant peak is way high, and it SIZZLES.
