Members goreDNknot
This might be an lame question, but how do you prefer to hold your drumsticks and why? By that I simply mean do you hold them at the very bottom or do you choke up on them a little higher? I am a guitarist who is learning drums and I have found that holding them at the bottom allows better accuracy (hitting each drum properly), but far less control of velocity, whereas choking up on them about 2-3 inches gives a better balance and control, but my accuracy suffers. Anyway, what are your thoughts? Jim
Members Chabo
I hold them so my pinky is like 1-2 inches from the butt end of the stick. Gives me a good amount of control, while also providing power.
Members zuul777
for matched grip, i usually hold them so my pinky is almost as far down comfortably as it can. but, i have excellent chops because of being a drum corp snare.... when i was weaker i would hold it up higher. remember to use all of your fingers on the stick for good control.for traditional grip, i do the right the same as matched grip, and the left is the traditional style with the hand 1/3 away from the butt end. of course, different types of sticks call for different grips and styles.
