Members PorscheDad
I'm flying Southwest airlines to Las Vegas for a gig. I need to bring my Gibson LP. I want to carry-on the guitar in it's hard case. Soutwest advised I could carry-on, but could not guarantee, depending on if the flight is full. If it's full, they'd check it at the ramp(YIKES).My LP is a 2002 Classic, triple pup. I don't want to gamble with my guitar going in the belly of a 737, and being tossed around. My options are:1) Ship it via Fed-ex/UPS prior to my gig2) Use a flight case and check it3) Buy a seat for the guitar and carry-onThoughts on what other people have done? Members ChrisGansz
#3 - I think taking it in the cargo hold as is with a regular case is nuts - AND I think # 1 is just as nuts.#2 is questionable and I would get it insured.
Members jpnyc
I just flew three Southwest flights with my Les Paul and it was fine. The first two flights were packed and they still let me on with a carry-on bag, a messenger bag, and the guitar. The third was completely sold out and they made me gate check the carry-on bag and board the plane with the guitar. I did pay the $10 extra for early boarding to ensure there would be room for the guitar. If you
Members kayd_mon
Usually, they're ok with carrying guitars on. It helps to check with the desk prior to boarding.
Members D Carroll
You could always rent a guitar in vegas.http://www.avvegas.com/Backline_Rental.aspx No hassle, no fuss. Also, way cheaper than buying another seat.
Members VagueSubscription
Buy a new Epiphone and leave the Gibson at home. I highly recommend the ES339 for $400.
