setting up a drumkit

I've seen a few kits set up in racks etc and they always seem to be fairly spaced out? Am I the exception to the rule when I want all my toms to be less than half an inch away from each other??

I want everything close together so that the rolls are hella fast...

Not only are my toms all less than 1/8" apart from each other, i bring my snare up and angle the high tom down a bit so its a nearly seemless transition in terms of surface continuity (between the two). I absolutely love the way my drums let me set up the toms...everything is perfect, exactly how i want it. Another great thing about having not-to-deep toms is you can really put them level and below your chest. I love to not have to raise up unless its for cymbols. All my drums are spead comfortably out infront of me.

I have a rack and I run a really tight setup. Toms are just far enough apart not to touch. I find with a rack (or stand mounted)I can get my toms lower then if they were mounted on the bass. I use deep toms, to get the angle, height and position correct for my style of playing is impossible on a bass mounted tom kit.

Hey is a small rack going to be a {censored}load cheaper than buying yet another couple cymbal/tom stands???

I wanna chuck my bongoes on there as well :p

is it going to be cheaper just to get a simple little rack, so I can use my stands and {censored} for more cymbals?
