Members zuul777
i play in a performing band, and operate in the studio with the same drumset. i need new heads, and i'd like to get a set of heads that works great in studio AND live.i guess my question is, if i buy "studio" heads with the muffling ring, will it sound OK live?style: mellow rock/jazz any ideas welcome!thanks
Members DRuM
I've been using powerstroke 4 transparent heads on my toms, and genera hd dry, the one with holes around it, on my snare. They work great live, and are even more perfect for the studio, as everything is naturally EQ'd.
Members ulank
For studio, I'd go with brighter sounding heads so you get some good edge to the attack. You can always suppress the highs, but it's real hard to make the attack come out when it's not already prominent. My last studio engineer claimed Evans heads have a nice bright attack, but it still depends on other factors like ply, coated vs. clear, etc. Maybe see what the guys at your local drumshop think is a good bright head combo.
