Members kenm
Hi, I just bought an awesome vintage chrome over 3 play maple slingerland kit, probably from the 70s. I was super excited about the kit until last night when I changed the heads and tried to tune it up. My first problem seemed to be that I like my drums tuned open and low. It seemed like I couldn't loosen the lugs enough without them not putting any tension on the rim at all. The second problem is that the 13" tom seems to had a flat spot on the edge near the mount. It created a horrid buzz and makes it nearly impossible to tune. At first I thought the head was pulled, but it seems to be the shell. I was putting clear ambassadors on the bottom and coated on the top. I hope someone has some suggestions on how to make this the amazing kit I know it can be. Also, does anyone know how to date these drums? Where can I reference the serial numbers? Thanks! Ken
