Members CrackedDrumHead Posted May 21, 2004 Members Share Posted May 21, 2004 I'm not great at drum tuning yet; so what I do with my snare (Omar Hakim 13" Snare) is unscrew completely, and retighten finger tight the batter & resonant lugs. Then I screw all the batter head lugs 1 1/4 complete turns (in 1/4 increments) and the resonant head lugs 1 3/4 complete turns. This setting seems to sound best to me on my snare. So it's a 1 1/4 (top) to 1 3/4 (bottom) ratio. Does anyone else have a routine like this where you just unscrew all the lugs and retighten; or do you just tweak the certain lugs here and there to get the right sound. Usually I just have to tune up because the head stretches over time, dropping in pitch. I only tune down if I goof by overtightening a lug.
