Identify a snare sound, please; Portnoy, "The Real Folk Blues" from Cowboy Bebop

Hi,

 

I'm looking for a snare that sounds like:

 

-Mike Portnoy's Primary snare on "Metropolis Pt II" (I know this may be his signature model)

-The snare sound in the ending theme song from "Cowboy Bebop", the Japanese Anime series. The song is called "The Real Folk Blues"

 

These snares have a tone I really like. They are not the deep rock sound, nor a super-snappy piccolo. I have a piccolo now and don't like the tone.

 

Please advise.

Maybe those recordings are the exception, but what ends up on a recording is not what you hear from the drum. It might even be partially or totally samples. Snare and kick tracks get a lot of attention from the engineers.
