Members Chunkaway
Anyone out there played on a brass snare drum? I'm specifically looking for someone who has played on a hammered brass snare drum. What are the tonal qualities of the drum versus a maple, copper, regular brass, etc... snare drum? Members Snake
Brass snare drums are great. Copper is really nice too (my current favorite). The DTB describes the differences better than I ever could.

Thanks for the website! That is perfect! I have been drumming for over 20 years and I still learn new things all the time!
Members pjb
At the moment I use only brass snares, both live and recording. I have two: a 3.5 X14 DW collectors' piccolo and a 6.5X14 collector's vintage brass. neither are hammered or beaded. they both have triple flanged (not die cast) hoops. I think they're great, very loud but they can be ringy if you put lighter heads on them. I use kevlar heads on mine with a hazy snare side, so they don't ring at all. I use them mainly because they are way louder than any wood drum i've used...
