Members unfungames
Right now I've got a TD-3 (it came with my kit) and I'm considering upgrading to a TD-8 because I can get it used for $500. I had a TD-6 awhile back (not the TD-6V) and the TD-3 and the TD-6 sounded virtually identical except that the TD-6 had a LOT more sounds. I don't want to spend $1000 to get a TD-12, but I do want some good realistic drum sounds.
Members the DW
Several years ago, I had a friend bring his Roland kit over to the house and set it up next to mine. We were both running through the same mixer and speakers. He had a TD-8 and I had my TD-6. He swore up and down that the TD-6 sounded better than the TD-8. I didn't notice any big difference though. Maybe it was just his imagination? My two cents.
Members fastplant
The TD6 and TD8 have the exact same sounds in them. One won't sound better than the other.
Members the DW
That's what I told him, but he still swore that the TD6 sounded better.

Yeah, it's the same sound engine, just different parameter adjustments. The TD12 is far superior, but also alot more money.
Members the DW
It just occurred to me.... Since the TD6 has less 'modeling' going on (no head selection or shell depth and thickness, etc.), maybe the samples come out "cleaner"? Oh well.... Or maybe less functions to fiddle with to mess up the sound, hehe.
