Have a look at http://www.synesthesiacorp.com/ . He uses the built in sounds and triggers samples on an apple computer. There's an interview in a recent issue of modern drummer in which he discusses his gear. If your looking for big pads you could have a look at second hand simmons pads or the yamaha pads that come with the dtxtreme IIS, i think you can buy those seperately.
