Members mparsons
Ok help me out guys. I have two 16" tom heads. Clean Remo Pinstripe, and Clear Remo Emperor. Which should be resonant and which batter for a huge, deep, tight, resonant sound? I don't want the super muted 'studio' sound, but I do want something that's tight with good attack. Members Majoria
Agreed. I run a clear 16" EC2 over a clear Emperor for my floor tom to get a pretty good sound so the Pinstripe over Emperor should work for you.
Members mparsons
Go figure, after trying your suggestions, I like the Emperor better as batter side. I also like it better as a resonant. Next order will be a complete rehead of my entire kit with clear emperors all around!

I don't want to waste your money, but try a clear Ambassaor on the bottom resonant head, The thinner the head, the more resonance and projection...just my 2 cents worth... Members mparsons
I'll try it but I think I want the double ply. Could the ambassadors get a really low, deep pitch? ( I tune my toms quite low )
Members Carminemw
I don't think you'd have a problem there, but they might get a little papery when down too far. I've used them but not just going for low rumble. The emporers would be a little more stiff and up to less tension. If you think you've found the right combo with the emporers, then I'd go there instead. After all, your ears have already heard success. I've used coated single ply's on the bottom for years...I just love how they keep going and going....like the enigizer bunny. Try my suggestions when you feel you still need more sustain. I think you'll be surprised....

Members FitchFY
I agree with Carmine- I'd try the Ambassador on the bottom; Emperors are pretty thick heads, and though you'll get the punch, if you want some boomy resonance, Ambassadors on the bottom will probably help with that. I've got clear Emperors on my batter side heads and clear Ambassadors on the resos and I love me my Yammies!
