Members moonstone
First off I should say I'm just a novice when it comes to drums.Problem I'm having is I have a Perl Firecracker 12" that I boughtused over the internet. I just can't seem to get a good "pop"out of the snare. I tried replaceing the snare wire and batter headbut still can't get a decent sound out of the snare. I'm not surehow to describe the problem ... it is like there is a lingeringzzzzz sound that happens after the hit. I've tried various tension on the heads and snare. Any ideasor have I just got a POS snare? I have heard a 10" Firecrakerat a store that sounded great. Any suggestions?
Members fayman
Crack comes from your bottom head. More tension on bottom head = More crack. Make sure it's tuned evenly at each lug as well. Secondly, make sure your new set of snares are seated properly and tensioned evenly....uneven tension will create snare buzz regardless of how tight you tension them. Lastly, be sure the snares aren't overly loose. Generally, tighter snares will yield a tighter sound.
Members drumsdb
I agree with what Fayman said with 1 cavat. Be sure your snares are not overtighened as well... If the bottom head is tight, and the snares are so tight against them that they don't move... it will actually choke the sound. DB

Members moonstone
Thanks! I think the problem may be with the bottom head. I'm pretty sure it has much less tension than the batter.
