Members squareking
My gf has dabbled in guitar, bass and piano for a bit, and she's thinking about taking up drums. What would you guys recommend as a nice starter set for under $450? Looking around, that seems almost impossible, but there are a few packs from Pulse and Sound Percussion (even a few sets from Pearl) that get close. Then again, she won't be on a world tour anytime soon, so unbreakable hardware isn't necessary. I don't know {censored} about drums, so lay down some options and opinions. Members boxofrocks
Go for used if you can, you'll get more stuff for the money. Stay with good name brands, Yamaha, Pearl, Ludwig, Etc... SP hardware is ok for cheap, but the drums aren't very good...

Pulse and Sound Percussion are cheap but this isn't just coming from a drummer, they're just so cheap that they're non-functional. The main problem is usually the hardware, but everything is too crappy to even learn on. For the same price you can get a USED entry level Pearl or Yamaha or any real brand and have a much better set.
Members kadrocker
I'm currently borrowing a Pearl set while a friend is on vacation. It's a Soundcheck series. Sounds just fine to me! I researched and found out it's only a $450 drumset. I don't know anything about drums, but once I give the set back, I'm gonna go buy my own of the same thing. I'm having a BLAST with these drums! I'll probably never do anything other than being a "bedroom rocker" but I don't see why you couldn't play in a band with it. Just my $.02.
