I thought about building my own or getting practice pads - all sorts of stuff.

But in the end, the Alesis DM5 Pro w/ Surge cymbals seemed like the best way.

I got enough projects right now.

This kit probably doesn't have anything on the Rolands or Yammys (except the HD-1), but this is a lot of bang for the buck. I needed a practice kit to get some more playing time, and this is working out.

I just got it yesterday so I am still tweaking a few things, but I already have some settings that sound close to what I am looking for.

The idea is to set it up just like my PDP kit and try to get the same sounds.

Highly recommended so far.

This kit is a blast!!

If you have a midi cable connected to your pc, you should try the preset package you can download. It might save you some work. Then again, tweaking it is a lot of fun.

Are you able to do buzz rolls on the snare? As a novice, I can't tell if it's just me or the kit yet.

This DM5 has 21 kits preloaded.

I am just tweaking to get it to sound like my drums.

The manual misdirected me little.

The hat pedal needs to get plugged into the footswitch input.

Makes sense now, but the manual says input 11.

Also got the bell on the ride working pretty well.

Buzz rolls?

Good question. Let me get back to you on that.

This kit is a blast - or did I say that already?
