Members vooter
guitar player here, ended up with some gigs sans bass player, thus i volunteered to play bass. just got a great deal on a mim fender p bass....problem is i'm a guitar player and know nothing about bass. For example..Strings? They have some sort of weird black things on the ends. Pickups? They seem really close together. HELP ME OUT WITH SOME BASICS..., looks like I'll be spending more time over here than at the effects pedals forum. Thanks
Members bigby
Welcome aboard! Here's some info on strings that you might find helpful: http://www.bassplayer.com/story.asp?sectioncode=21&storycode=4037 Also, if you can get past the title; recommend picking up Bass Guitar for Dummies. Good info on gear and such, as well as some great beginners - intermediate stuff in there.

Members Mofopotomus
Yeah, and could the black things on the end be the winding material? Or the ball that holds it in your bridge? That's probably wrong though because I though guitar strings had those too.
