Members The Aardvark
I'm going to finish modding one of my SXs soon. I currently have replaced the pots and bridge. I'm going to replace the pickups (probably a P/J combo SBP-1 and STK-J1b) but before I do I was wondering if there is any value at all in shielding the cavities seeing as how the pickups I'm putting in are hum-cancelling? You may or may not notice any difference in sheilding the PU cavities.(The control cavity and cover should be shielded, regardless of PU used.) Members georgestrings
Since shielding my MIM Ps this past summer, I've made it a standard operation of any new-to-me bass... it made that much of a difference... - georgestrings
Members BigPigPeaches
I would agree with George...shielding a bass is an ounce of prevention, even with P pickups. Under the wrong circumstances (lighting, miswired outlets), even the best of rigs will hum and buzz, and shielding will greatly reduce the likelihood of this. Members Markee
....and, you'll be glad you did if you ever play in a Casino or pub that has a lot of neon signs hanging around.
Members Apendecto
I did it when I upgraded to a Quarter pounder p, Hot jazz stack J. I used conductive paint and it was easy as hell. I've got tons left for other projects and will shield them as well. A little on the expensive side but there are cheaper ways of doing it, too. Yo.
