Members waw423
Im thinking of removing my pickup cover on my new bass. I was just wondering the pros and cons of one.
Members rllefebv
They cover the pickups and look cool... Other than that, not too much... Some folks feel that they provide shielding, but I'm not picking that one up... Others feel that they get in the way... I like 'em on my '51 RI, but only for the vibe, and a nice place to anchor my thumb other than the somewhat weak pickup... None of my other basses wear them... YMMV -robert
Members Anesthesia
The bridge pickup cover in old fenders used to hold a foam mute pad that touched the strings. On old Rickenbackers, the 'cover' you see is actually part of the pickup assembly. Rickenbacker continues to put covers on for looks now.
Members Benjamin
Note: The "bridge cover"/"horseshoe" on an early Rickenbacker is functional. Later ones aren't. Ashtrays on Fenders look cool, kinda like the extra chrome they needed in order to look special, which I think they do. Essentially useless otherwise.
