Marcus Miller J-bass : what else to try ?

Love mine. I ended up sucking up and paying the full grand most places want for the thing. It's everything I wanted it to be: a good four string jazz bass that offers a hip yet traditional look and a modern sound with the ability to take a step back to a more familiar bass sound in certain situations. It certainly cuts through. Marcus uses his in a more 'up front' type of playing - I like it for it's ability to do the opposite, to be completely honest. Switch it into active mode when I want that upfront boost in tone. A bass I'll never let go of - alongside of my Schecter Stiletto Elite 5 string which I string tenor (EADGC). These two basses offer me the variety in sound and feel that just can't be replaced. Maybe at some point I'll throw in a real Sadowsky Preamp into the Fender and a Bartolini setup into the Schecter, but I'm happier than I've ever been with my electric sound.

Get the Marcus - but I do recommend finding a used one. They're usually setup better than the out of the box ones and are easier on the wallet.
