Members Fireball_73
I think I've blown the fuse in my amp... and I need help. I'd really rather not have to take it to an amp specialist and get charged for him to fix it. (Money is tight) Anyway the back story is that I was sitting learning a song with the tab on the computer screen and my Ashdown Electric blue combo cuts out. I have two different plugs I can use for it, both however are computer plugs (perhaps this has something to do with it) as the plug before got damaged accidentally at a band practice. Anyway both plugs work fine, so it's definatly the amp. I see a small fuse symbol under the plug socket and it seems to say "use only with a 250V fuse" - which is strange because fuses are rated in Amps (ie: current, not voltage). Help! Should I email Ashdown?
Members Onkel Bob
Can't you just take the fuse out and take it to a radio store and by one that's the same? They should have a way to test if it's blown anyway.
Members Fireball_73
You would think, I need to try 2 access it properly, but it looks like the fuse doest have a small compartment with screws to access it easly...
Members BEAD
stick a penny in there instead of a fuse so it never blows again! of course, this might cause other problems...
Members Fireball_73
I checked and although I know where the fuse is (there is a picture of the fuse on the plastic casing) there seems to be no way into it!
Moderators Kindness Posted August 13, 2007 Moderators Share Posted August 13, 2007 Fuses are rated for both Amps and Voltage. There has to be a way to get to the fuse. Do you have the manual?
Members bholder
I checked and although I know where the fuse is (there is a picture of the fuse on the plastic casing) there seems to be no way into it! Is the plastic casing over the fuse just one part with the amp casing at that point, or is it a separate piece? I've seen some plastic fuse compartment casings that were designed to pop off or open, but which were somewhat non-obvious to figure out (probably not a bad idea, preventing accidental opening and loss of fuse). Is it translucent / transparent or opaque? I can't really describe the type I'm thinking of - any chance you could post a picture?
Moderators Kindness Posted August 13, 2007 Moderators Share Posted August 13, 2007 I took a look at the manual. It doesn't say one word about changing the fuse, but it did give me a picture of the fuse holder. It looks to be integral with the power chord jack. It did not appear to indicate how to open it. It was really odd. I can't believe that you need to open the chassis to replace the fuse, so I'm guessing the plastic piece immediately below the power cord jack must pop off to access the fuse. However, I'm just going off some silly line drawing and really have no clue. Sorry.
Members Onkel Bob
I used to have an amp that ate fuses for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We always had a few spare ones around. On this one it was really easy to get to. The way it should be.
Members Guttermouth
pull the power cord out of the socket. there should be a little lip on the bottom part of the socket.pull it towards you and a little drawer with a fuse will open up. I've tried this several times. It isnt working and I dont really want to force it more, I've put enough pressure on it with screwdrivers that fit the little lip. Better safe than needing a new jack housing eh! I've contacted Ashdown Technical support - see what they say...
