Ok, I know that being in tune in relation to a standard is more important to being in tune with each other. This is important when some post production recording has to be done and no one can find the old worn out piano that the original recording was tuned to.

 

Now what about strobe and sweep tuning? Someone explain to me what makes strobe tuning more accurate than the regular sweep. I mean what's the physics behind it?

For reference, pedal "strobe tuners" are virtual strobes as there are no rotating discs. This tuner is a real strobe:
