Members revharry
I just came across a Ric 4001 C64 in 5 string in Fireglo. I've never seen another one. Anyone out there know about this model? Revblueta2@enter.net

Members guitargod0dmw
I've seen them, but I've never played one. I've heard their low B is less than desirable, and the string spacing is very close. I've read mixed reviews on the sound. Some people say the EADG strings sound like a Ric, but the B doesn't. Others say it sounds like a 5 string P bass...but that's just what I read... I wouldn't mind trying one out.
Members revharry
It sounds like a Ric to me. Some like the toaster PU some don't. I'm really a p bass fan myself. I also came across a Ric model 4080 double neck in bass and 6 string. Cool looking but heavy and not comfortable to play, Rev

My Ric sounds awesome tuned down to C#, and I'm only using a .105 on the E. Just takes some touch. The problem with their 5s is the pickups. They aren't wide enough to accommodate the extra width of squeezing another string in there. The low B travels close enough to the edge of the pickup's sensing area that you get fadeouts. That and the fact that they squeeze five strings into the space of four add up to a damn near unplayable instrument.
