There's no compelling reason to have it there, and putting the DMX controller on the table with my laptop and mixer will make it easy to access it. I can also manually tweak the lights if I want to. Based on the ratings for those lights and comparing them to the ratings of the lights I am using, I would confidently say that 4 of those Par 38 LEDs per side would do a fine job and be just about as bright as the rig that I am using.
