Members jasper383
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PBassSVMWht The Precision Bass with the split coil pickup is the ultimate "Point and Shoot" recording bass. Sounds good, fits in any mix, no single coil hum.

Members jasper383
The Squiers I have tried lately at my local shops have been as nice as the Mexican Fenders. And the pickups (Seymour Duncan imports) have been better.

Members PaulyWally
The Yamaha RBX series is in that price range. And IMO, they have a better fit and finish than any Squire I've ever picked up. Yamaha's QG also seems to fair better than Squire (even MIM Fenders at times). And that's not to say that you won't like the Squire. You just need to go try them out and compare them. There could also be some good stuff in the used market for you in that price range (like a G&L Tribute).
