"Almost", back at you
:p

Waygu is a family of several breeds, however, "Kobe" is not "Japanese Wagyu". "Kobe" is just one of several Waygu vareities (specifically a variety of Black Wagyu, raised, obviously, near Kobe). There are several other Waygu breeds in Japan; Black Wagyu can also be, for example, Matsusaka Beef (raised in a prefecture near to Kobe), Kumamoto is famous for Red Wagyu, etc.

In fact, Waygu evidently just means "Japanese Cow" (note: I'm trusting a Japanese friend on that translation), the various Waygu herds are actually rather diverse in genetics (the Mishima cows of the Yamaguchi prefecture are supposed to be the most endogamic population, and thus closest to the cows originally imported to Japan 1500+ years ago).

Touche. That's what I meant to type. My point was just that Wagyu is not kobe, but kobe is wagyu.

Craftsteak a few weeks ago was having a "buy one get one free" thing. I believe it's still going on. And from what I've heard, pretty much all their steak was eligible. Definitely ask about it when you get there because it's probably not openly advertised. It's an incredible deal.

Otherwise, like I said, Stripsteak has a $50 off coupon on Restaurant.com. It's $10, but you can Google for a discount code (usually 50%-80% off). I paid $3 for mine. It's valid as long as you get two entrees (or more).

Vegas is overflowing with white trash...I'm sure that even your most casual attire will be appropriate for most Vegas shows.

Yes, and no.

There are plenty of folks who have no desire to get all fancied-up and go to a high-falootin' sit-down restaurant, but they are just here because the airfare and hotel rates are great right now!

Most real restaurants on the strip don't want you to look like you just strolled in from the pool area. Jeans/khakis, shirt without nekked womens on it , (preferably with a collar, but not even really required unless it is a fancy joint)... should be fine.

The folks who are in charge understand that its 105 and you are not fond of sweating your balls off, so the shows should not be too strict.

come to KC. i'll put you up in casa de ml, and feed you good beer and the best BBQ in the US.

:)

It's tempting. I just realized that I haven't had a proper vaction since my honeymoon nearly six years ago.

No wonder I'm so {censored}ing pissed all of the time.

Thanks, but I'll likely be spending the next few years doing the same miserable {censored} that I've been doing for the past six.

keep doing what you're doing and you'll keep getting what you're getting.

It's about options. I've got a 1 year old, a wife that works part time and a 2+ gigs a week working band.

I haven't figured out how to make everything work perfectly yet, but in the meantime I'm trying to make sure that there are no cash flow problems. That seems to be the only part of the equation that I've got in the bag.

I'll be making some significant changes after the first of the year, but for now, I just need to keep my head down and minimize the collateral damage.

Why aren't you coming to Vegas next month then? You know we've got no shows that week 'cause I'll already be there, haha.

Tell your wife that I booked us at Harrahs.

She's working. Never mind the fact that Vegas wouldn't be much fun with a 1 year old in tow.

Dude, you've got a weekend getaway coming up in five days. Gloucester!

I've actually thought about just getting a room at the places we play when we go a little ways away, and then spending that Sunday just checking out the area. But we don't play that far away anymore. When we were in Keysville, Arlington, Nags Head, Wintergreen, etc... it made sense.

That's how I used to get 'mini vacations' when I was playing a lot more frequently!

I'm thinking about a 'staycation' where you go to a place in your own town (vegas has plenty of places) and you just do the tourist thing... Local's specials can be pretty good here.

Speaking of locals ... where do locals go for fun? I've heard they stay away from the strip, and Las Vegas seems like a pretty big place. There must be tons of other things to see & do in the area, but all you ever hear about (at least when you're a tourist) is the casinos & shows. That stuff is fun for a while, but I'm not much of a gambler and I get really sick of overpriced, overhyped tourist traps really quickly.

Do you have any suggestions for a group of tourists who want to get away from the herds of other tourists and not spend the whole time we're there on the strip?
