Members mlwarriner
ok, so i got the pickups and the wiring bits for the rockbass. originally, the bass had a side-mounted barrel jack, and an active preamp. i'm doing it back up fully passive. fine. except - there are three tabs on the end of the output jack, and i know i only need 2. but i don't know which one is "tip" and which one(s) are ring/sleeve. one tab has a single white wire. one tab has a single black wire. the third tab appears to have the shield of the white wire, and another black wire. the black wire that is on it's own tab goes directly to the battery clip. the black wire on the other tab is not connected to anything. would i be right in assuming that the tab with the single white wire is the "tip" and the tab with multiple wires is the ring, and that i don't need to be concerned with the tab that has only the battery clip black wire? Members mlwarriner
Did you solder your finger to the jack? yeah. on a slightly more serious note - do they made decent quality pots in a smaller-bodied form? the way the cavity on this is set up, i can't fit "normal" pots in there. Members mlwarriner
Go wire the Freak! Or route out the cavity to fit the larger pots (that's what I often do). i should work on the freak, but i still haven't a meter with which to test. i'd really like to avoid unwiring and rewiring the whole thing. as for routing the cavity out - probably not an option. part of the interference is from the outer/lower edge of the body. i'm afraid if i rout out enough to make the pots fit, i'll go out through the body. and, my wife and kids are in bed. i'd get my ass handed to me if i broke out the router tonight. Members georgestrings
{censored}in' a! linear pots, right? for all three? I can't remember off the top of my head - I believe you use linear for one, audio taper for the other - but I can't remember which one for tone, and which one for volume... - georgestrings
Moderators Kindness Posted February 12, 2010 Moderators Share Posted February 12, 2010 Traditionally you use audio taper for all three. You can use a linear tone pot to have a little finer control over the top range of the pot.
