Since this is a Linksys router... upgrading the firmware can actually make it WORSE so I would not suggest it at this time unless you have time to research via google whether or not the version is stable. 3. I'm going to guess you have an 802.11g router. If so, 2.4ghz cordless phones owned by you or a neighbor can interfere. So can baby monitors or even microwave ovens. 4. You can try changing the channel to remedy the interference problem. With 802.11g you have three non-overlaping channels - 1, 6 and 11. Channel 6 is the default for Linksys I believe, and Channel 1 has the least chance of interference from a microwave. 5. If your client is 802.11g, buying an 802.11n router will not gain you any speed or range.
Members HackedByChinese!
If I understand the technology correctly, this may also reduce the effective range of the router. However, I have no firsthand experience with this. It will, but not enough to cause issues in this context.
Members Deep Bass
Is there a power setting? My dsl modem/wireless router has a selectable power setting from 1-10. I think this affects the wireless range.
