Members starfire_Xes
Can anyone give me an idea of the current 'circuit' songs on the music scene for a cover band? Consider mostly rock, heavy, pop, and jazz. That is, what are the current essential songs for a musician in a cover band? Thanks everyone, I always appreciate the help. Members Blackbird 13
Without more info, it's hard to give you an answer. Are you aiming towards a classic rock crowd or a younger crowd? Colleges, corporates, bars, festivals, or weddings? Some combination thereof? In the deep south or way up north? Without the answers to those questions, and assuming you aren't limiting genres.. here's a list of 25-30 tunes I'd consider fairly "across the board" right now, and the ones I'd throw out first if I were building a cover band from scratch. In no particular order.... "Don't Stop Believin'" - Journey"Billie Jean" - Michael Jackson"Forget You/{censored} You" - Ceelo Green"This Is How We Do It" - Montell Jordan"My Own Worst Enemy" - Lit"Blister in the Sun" - Violent Femmes"Sweet Home Alabama" - Lynyrd Skynyrd"Chicken Fried" - Zac Brown Band"Play That Funky Music" - Wild Cherry"Rebel Yell" - Billy Idol"Dynamite" - Taio Cruz"I Gotta Feelin" - Black Eyed Peas"All The Small Things" - Blink 182"Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" - Big & Rich"Crazy Bitch" - Buckcherry"Wagon Wheel" - Old Crow Medicine Show"What I Got" - Sublime"The Middle" - Jimmy Eat World"Brown Eyed Girl" - Van Morrison"Poker Face" - Lady Gaga"American Girl" - Tom Petty"Cupid Shuffle" - Cupid"Let's Get It On" - Marvin Gaye"Folsom Prison Blues" - Johnny Cash"Ball and Chain" - Social Distortion"Josie (Your Love)" - Outfield"867-5309 (Jenny, Jenny)" - Tommy Tutone"Jessie's Girl" - Rick Springfield For a few heavier tunes to replace the pop and country, if that's what you're aiming for.. I'd go with: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana"Sugar We're Goin Down" - Fall Out Boy"Beautiful People" - Marilyn Manson"Bulls on Parade" - Rage Against the Machine"Break Stuff" - Limp Bizkit I've also had great luck with Kings of Leon's "Sex On Fire" and Metro Station's "Shake It", but I've seen quite a few people disagree with those choices here on HC. Some of it is geographical...

IMO.
Members starfire_Xes
I am more thinking along the lines of what is current in the pop/rock/heavy scene, for example some stuff I like would be Coldplay, Radiohead, Finger Eleven, Three Days Grace, etc. I pretty much know what classics to do. I'm waiting for someone to post 'Cocaine' LOL.....naming my next band the band that doesn't play 'Cocaine' kidding...

Members starfire_Xes
Yea, some of those like Don't Stop Believing I learned when they first came out in the early 80's. I could add several other songs that I've recently heard covered a bit, 'Is This Love' by Bob Marley, 'Wicked Game', etc.
