Members jt9057
For those of who use Mesa/Boogie Studio Preamps, when going to a poweramp which is the best output to use? The main outs or the recording outs? I find the recording outs sound wayyy better.

Members Cornflakeofdeath
I use the main outs. Never tried the recording outs to an amp. What do you percieve the difference between the two to be?
Members jt9057
with the main outs the distortion is too buzzy
Members JoeyD
The recording outs are voiced softer, so you can send them direct to a mixing console and not be too buzzy. The main outs are meant to feed a power amp/speaker cab set up. I'm surprised that it's not too dead sounding, using the recording outs to a power amp/cab... Members mshifflett
I tried the same thing out of my Marshall JMP-1. It sounded fine out of the recording outs, just different of course. I think it will all depend on what your ears perceive as the best tone. As long as you can get a good strong signal out of it, either will be fine. Right now, my studio has a G-Major in the loop and runs into a Randall RRM-80 (single rackspace solid state) and a 2x12 cab in stereo. I use the main outs. I found the recording outs too soft and compressed.

Members jt9057
Using the main outs the clean sounds nice. But when I kick in the distortion it starts to sound shrill. But at the same time the recording outs sound too soft and dont have enough treble.
